Website Design Cheltenham secures Cyber 139

Website Design in Cheltenham has secures the new Cyber 139 site.

Website Design in Cheltenham has secures the new Cyber 139 site.Website Design in Cheltenham was asked to help design, search engine optimise and secure the new Cyber 139 site.

With cyber security growing as an issue- and an unfortunate business, being based here in Cheltenham makes sense to develop a new, targeted and focused business.

Large scale cyber security breaches make the headlines but about 70% of organisations are not reporting their worst security incidents- so what is making the news is just a small proportion of the breaches that are actually taking place.

According to the latest report by the Office of National Statistics (ONS), there were 5.8 million incidents of cyber crime and fraud in the 12 months up to March 2016, affecting one in 10 people in England and Wales.

For small organisations the worst breaches cost between £65,000 and £115,000 on average and for large organisations may run to many millions of pounds. These costs can occur as direct financial losses due to fraud or theft; the loss of productivity due to time spent recovering from the effects of a successful attack; or the lost of trust and reputation.

Despite the vast majority of small firms (93%) taking steps to protect their business from digital threats, two thirds (66%) have been a victim of cyber crime in the last two years. Over that period, those affected have been victims on four occasions on average, costing each business almost £3000 in total.

So effective cyber prevention starts with the changed mind set of “what happens WHEN we are hacked” from “what happens IF we are hacked”. And working on from there.

So, if you want to protect your business’s survival then please contact us NOW or ring us on now to see how we can help you to make money as well!

ED Society asks Website Design Cheltenham for help

The Ectodermal Dysplasia Society has asked Website Design Cheltenham for help with their new site.

The Ectodermal Dysplasia Society has asked WebSite Design Cheltenham for help with their new site. The Ectodermal Dysplasia Society has asked Website Design in Cheltenham for help in developing their new site.

The Ectodermal Dysplasia Society is a charity dedicated to improving the health and well-being of people whose lives are affected by Ectodermal Dysplasia (ED). They work together with people who have ED, their families, researchers, health and other professionals to develop and share expertise, increase awareness and understanding, and assist with the day-to-day management of ED.

The ED Society already has a website but it is unresponsive and to use the old phrase “is not fit for purpose”.

Whilst they started to create their site themselves using WordPress they soon ran into problems. Recognising that they had reached a limit they approached one of our other clients for help- who kindly suggested that we could help them instead.

After a review of their current requirements we worked out what they are trying to achieve and the most cost effective approach to achieving their aims- escpecially as being a charity limited budgets are a key issue for them.

As well as design improvements they also needed search engine optimisation, security implementation, donation payment systems and overal functional issues addressed and fixed.

Oh and they also need to implement a Secure Socket Layer in the near future and to use Donald Rumsfeld’s “fear of the unknown, unknowns” hand holding going on into the future for assistance when they run into ongoing issues.

So, if you want to develop your organisation’s website and your online processes then please contact us NOW or ring us on now to see how we can help you to make money as well!

Voice Over Artist secured by Website Design

Voice Over Artist Andy Turvey has had his main website secured by Website Design Cheltenham.

Voice Over Artist Andy Turvey has had his main website secured by Website Design Cheltenham.Website Design in Cheltenham have been helping Andy Turvey with his websites including his main eponymous voiceover site for a number of years.

Having updated his website last year we realised that to maintain his professional status that his side would need to be secured- even though he doesn’t take online books nor maintain personal, sensitive customer data online.

This process also has the added advantage that Google ranks protected and secure websites over unprotected sites as a way of improving overall online reputations.

Then we added a number of other security measures. But what these exactly are are between us and the client.

Cyber security is a growing threat to all businesses- large and small so this area is one where we are increasingly helping our clients.

Large scale cyber security breaches make the headlines but about 70% of organisations are not reporting their worst security incidents- so what is making the news is just a small proportion of the breaches that are actually taking place.

Britain was being targeted by up to 1,000 cyber attacks every hour in 2014. The latest published figures in 2016 don’t even quantify the latest rates- except to say that 24% of ALL businesses they surveyed have had one or more cyber security breaches in the past 12 months.

So, if you want to protect your business’s website and your business processes then please contact us NOW or ring us on now to see how we can help you to make money as well!

60% of small businesses surveyed have experienced a cyber breach, but only 29% of those who haven’t experienced a breach cited potential reputational damage as an ‘important’ consideration.

The impact of a cyber breach can be huge and long lasting. 89% of the small businesses surveyed who have experienced a breach said it impacted on their reputation.  Those who experienced a breach said the attack led to:
Brand damage (31%)
Loss of clients (30%)
Ability to win new business (29%)

Cyber prevention is much better than cure

According to one industry report, the number of cyber ransomware attacks increased in 2014 by more than 4,000%, with small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) being the main target due to poor security practices.

The rise in legitimate websites being compromised for the purposes of executing watering hole attacks as a way of delivering malware – including ransomware – means enterprises need to add malware detection to web browsing activities.

Could your business survive a ransomware attack- would your accounts or your customer data be recoverable? Do you know how to safeguard your organisation’s very survival?

Dangers of shopping on non https websites

We wanted to highlight the dangers of shopping on non secure- non https websites.

We wanted to highlight the dangers of shopping on non secure- non https websitesWebsite Design Cheltenham was amazed to come across an otherwise reputable site that didn’t encrypt it’s potential customers’ details.

With cyber hacking happening on a daily basis with the likes of Talk Talk, JP Morgan and Wetherspoons all being victims of abuse we thought that every company with a website was taking it’s customers’ data securely.

Not only is this a moral requirement- it is a legal requirement here in the United Kingdom. You could be liable for a fine by the Data Comissioner to the tune of £500,000. How happy is that at Christmas time?

Things to look for in a secure website

When visiting a website that asks for sensitive information such as credit card numbers or passwords,  is verifying that any information you enter on this site is transmitted and stored properly. Once your information is entered online, it is transmitted as plain text for anyone to intercept. To avoid this, make sure that the website is encrypted over a secure connection.

  • HTTPS

One such sign to look for is in the URL of the website. A secure website’s URL should begin with “https” rather than “http”. The “s” at the end of “http” stands for secure and is using an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) connection. Your information will be encrypted before being sent to a server.

  • THE LOCK ICON

Another sign to look for is the “Lock” icon that is displayed somewhere in the window of your web browser- usually by the URL in your browser.

  • GREEN ADDRESS BAR

Some SSL certificates also activate the green address bar – a visual reminder about an especially secure connection.

A recent survey shows that while some people don’t necessarily know which security signs to look out for, nearly all associate the green address bar with a secure connection.

In fact, 85% of web users state they wouldn’t buy through a website where they weren’t certain their data was being transferred securely.

This illustrates how important it is to have clear and visible security settings so customers will click the “Buy Now” button with confidence.

So, if you want to increase your non secure website’s sales by 600% then please contact us NOW or ring us on 01242 521967 now to see how we can help you to make money as well!
