With the GDPR deadline looming Website Design Cheltenham has been sending out a number of email newsletters for clients including Jack Straws Baskets.
With the EU's General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) starting in May 25th we at Website Design Cheltenham have been helping a number of our clients including Jack Straws Baskets prepare and in some cases set up processes to meet the new regulations.
The new data laws concern the "personally identifiable data" which companies hold, starting with the basic question- do you actually need the data that you are holding on to.
When I tell clients that they may well lose half of their databases - they are understandably pretty peeved. But when we send out email newsletters that it what we find- less than half of the recipients can not be bothered to click the Opt In link - even of we make it as easy as possible with just one click.
However when I then ask clients the question - what are the odds of someone who doesn't bother to even click on your newsletter actually picking up the phone or contacting you to buy something off you, the penny starts to fall when they realise that their cherished database isn't quite the goldmine that they were hoping it was.
So we have tried to make it as easy as possible for people and hold clients' hands to comply with the GDPR and the UK's ICO Information Commissioner. Because it is not just fear of being caught out, but that actually people - humans you and I that care how our data is treated. And it someone rides rough shod over our data then we are not going to trust businesses to look after it and go to their competitors.
So it is actually good business to get good data handling processes right and in place.
